Our Presbyterian Church (USA) Structure
The Session is the governing board of the church, elected by the congregation to serve 3 year terms. They are responsible for the operation and policy-making of the church.
The Deacons are chosen to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless and to any who may be in distress. It is an office of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. The Board of Deacons has duties including charitable ministry and other tasks assigned to it by Session.
The Presbytery is made up of the ministers of a specified area, together with an equal number of elders, which meets at regularly appointed times. They ordain and supervise the work of ministers and oversee ministry in local churches. FPC is a part of the Wabash Valley Presbytery.
The Synod is made up of larger regions to which are delegated certain members from the Presbyteries. The Synod acts within its area on administrative, programmatic, and judicial matters. Currently, the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. is organized into 16 Synods. FPC is a part of the Synod of Lincoln Trails.
The General Assembly is the highest governing body and meets annually and upon call. Made up of an equal number of lay and clergy commissioners who are nominated and elected by the Presbyteries, the General Assembly may change governmental structures and alter statements of faith with concurrence by a specified number of Presbyteries.
Geneva Center is a year round Camp and Conference Ministry of Wabash Valley Presbytery. The mission of Geneva Center's Summer Program strives to "provide a transforming, grace-filled experience where God's love is prevalent in the lives of campers and those who serve here".
