Introduction
The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) through its Nkhoma Synod Relief and Development department-Water and Sanitation project facilitated the implementation of a training program for the Chibanzi wells project. A total of 20 members, referred to as Zone Management Team (ZMT) members were trained in the general procedures for the running of the Chibanzi shallow wells project. The maintenance men training program has however been delayed to this month end to allow the builders, who are themselves participants to this maintenance men training program, concentrate on the protection of the 25 planned wells for Chibanzi which is under way

Zone Management Team (ZMT) training.
In total, 20 ZMT members were exposed to a 5 day training session that ran from 31st August to 4th September, 2009 at Mponela RTC in Dowa. Five Nkhoma Synod Filed Staff manned the training session.
1.1 Topics covered
ZMT goals and objectives: providing safe drinking water, maintenance of a 100% well functionality and transparency in financial management.
Roles of ZMT members: Team leader, Secretary, Bookkeeper, Maintenance Foreman, Well committee and Maintenance man in an effort to keep 100% well functionality.

Training Evaluation
The ZMT training evaluation session conducted after all the course content was delivered to the participants indicated a very high level of mastery of the ZMT concept in the participants and a zeal in them to take the ZMT concept to greater heights in order to maintain a 100% well functionality in the area. (picture)
Plans developed during the training were also reflective of a positive attitude towards fostering sustainability of the shallow wells program in Chibanzi area and beyond.
Progress of the 25 planned Chibanzi wells
To date 8 wells have been protected and fitted with Mark V Hand pumps
5 wells are fully protected only waiting for pumps to be fixed which will be done in a couple of days to come.
12 wells are dully excavated and are scheduled to be protected in a few weeks to come after which they will also be fitted with pumps.
